The Mysore Style Ashtanga is the most suitable way to start or advance in your practice (you do not need to know the series or other knowledge to get started). Everyone practices at their own pace by following their breathing and receives personalized support from the teacher, to adapt the postures accordingly, develop autonomy in their practice and dissect certain postures.
INDIVIDUAL ATTENTION
In Mysore Style classes, the teacher interacts with each student individually, providing guidance, adjustments and personalized support, ensuring, that students receive the attention needed to develop their practices and progress properly.
SILENT ATMOSPHERE
Mysore classes are typically conducted in silence, allowing students to focus inward and cultivate a meditative state of mind.
COMMUNITY SUPPORT
Mysore classes create an inclusive, supportive community where students can learn and inspire each other.
From the outside, Ashtanga yoga seems to be all about flexibility and jump-backs, but this remains very superficial. Internally, it is like a meditation in movement, using the breath, the body and the drishti, bringing our attention from the outside to the inside. We practice Mysore in a very calm environment, free from stimulation, noise and self-reflection. Creating a very particular group energy that is difficult to reproduce in other yoga class formats.

What is a Mysore Style classes ?
The “Mysore Style” is the authentic and traditional way of practicing Ashtanga yoga taught by its founder, Sri K. Pattabhi Jois at the prestigious KPJAYI-SYC school. In these classes, everyone practices at their own pace by following their breathing and receives personalized support from the teacher.
The Mysore Style allows you to do everything that a classic guided class does not normally allow: adapt the postures according to the student, go at your own pace, develop autonomy in your practice and dissect certain postures according to your practice with the teacher. Personalized support from the teacher is the safest and most sustainable way to practice Ashtanga yoga. This allows you to fully understand the sequence of postures but above all to practice according to your own specificities and your current state.
What are the benefits of Mysore Style classes ?
Personalized support from the teacher is the safest and most sustainable way to practice Ashtanga yoga. This allows you to fully understand the sequence of postures but above all to practice according to your own specificities and your current state. Every body is different, so every practice is unique. If the guided classes are especially useful for teaching the sequence of postures, the Mysore classes allow you to pay attention to your own sensations, your breathing and to develop depth and autonomy in your practice while benefiting from the energy of the group . Finally, Mysore allows you to explore a deeper and spiritual dimension of yoga, to know yourself better and to open the body in a more fair way. The practice then becomes a real meditation in movement.
Pattabhi Jois only gave this class in Mysore (hence its name), in his Shala. This type of class is in the tradition of Yoga teaching, which favors the personal teacher/student relationship. Ashtanga Yoga is traditionally taught in the “Mysore” style and is the most impactful approach to learning and understanding the practice. The name Mysore is derived from the present-day city in southern India where Sri K. Pattabhi Jois lived, studied, taught and raised his family for most of his life.
Mysore is also considered a supervised self-practice where the asanas are introduced and taught, one at a time, so that the student can easily memorize the sequence with confidence and comfort, fortifying their skills to navigate the practice of a way that instills a sense of empowerment, firmness and calm. In class, the student progresses at his own pace with the help of his teacher. The practice of Ashtanga yoga is offered to each student individually, entirely dependent on where they are on the day they enter a class. there is always advice and support when necessary, the aim is to meet the needs of each student as best as possible. The recommendation when taking the first steps in Mysore is that students commit to at least a month at least twice a week to accelerate and deepen the learning process.
